A group of employees from Mingachevir State University participated in an international lecture titled “Separating the S and G Factors in the European Banking Sector: The Role of Awareness of Climate Risks and Opportunities” in a hybrid format.

During the event, presenter Simona Russo spoke about the growing importance of awareness regarding climate-related risks and opportunities in the banking sector. It was noted that the environmental transition process creates new challenges in the social (S) and governance (G) dimensions and requires the development of effective strategies in these areas.

Within the framework of the lecture, the results of a comprehensive study covering European banks were presented. It was emphasized that the level of climate-related awareness within financial institutions has a significant impact on the development of strategies and practices in social and governance areas. In particular, positive and statistically significant results were highlighted in sub-indicators such as product responsibility, community relations, stakeholder engagement, and governance.

In addition, it was noted that the implementation of risk management and control mechanisms, including the IRB approach, further strengthens this relationship. The results of sensitivity and resilience tests confirmed the reliability of the presented approaches.

The lecture attracted considerable interest from participants, and extensive discussions were held on the topic, particularly regarding the interconnections between climate risks and other components of sustainable development.

It should be noted that encouraging the active participation of employees in international scientific events is of great importance for strengthening the scientific potential of Mingachevir State University and expanding global academic cooperation.
