On May 12, 2026, Mingachevir State University (MSU), through the organization of its Institute for Sustainable Energy and Regional Development Research, held a scientific-practical event titled \u201cTransition to a Net-Zero Future: Green Economy, Carbon Finance and Sustainable Development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event brought together the university\u2019s academic staff, researchers, and representatives of the Mingachevir Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Associate Professor Ruhiyya Huseynova, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy and Regional Development Research at MSU, emphasized that global challenges related to climate change, energy security, decarbonization, and green economic transformation are creating new responsibilities for higher education institutions. She highlighted the importance of expanding sustainability-oriented research at universities, promoting green innovations, and fostering an environmentally responsible academic environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was noted that within the framework of the \u201cGreen Campus\u201d approach implemented at Mingachevir State University, scientific and practical activities related to energy efficiency, green economy, renewable energy, reduction of carbon emissions, and environmental sustainability are being continuously expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the event, Associate Professor Elshan Ahmadov from the Department of State Regulation of Economy at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan delivered a presentation on \u201cCarbon Pricing, Emissions Trading Systems (ETS), and Green Finance Mechanisms.\u201d His speech provided detailed insights into the formation of carbon markets, emission management models, and the role of green financing instruments in economic transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, Zahid Gasimli, Public Relations Specialist of the Mingachevir Municipality, delivered a presentation on \u201cGreen Hydrogen Economy, Energy Storage Technologies, and Investment Models,\u201d discussing the prospects of alternative energy technologies and current trends in the development of the green energy ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Associate Professor Vugar Mammadli from the Department of Economics at MSU addressed the topic \u201cFinancial Efficiency of the Transition to Renewable Energy Sources: Economic Assessment of Energy Saving,\u201d highlighting the economic aspects of energy efficiency, rational use of resources, and the strategic importance of sustainable energy policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saqib Mammadov, lecturer at the Department of Management of the university, presented on \u201cCircular Economy, Decarbonization Strategies, and Digital Transformation,\u201d sharing views on resource reuse in modern economic models, digital solutions, and environmental management mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event also featured extensive discussions on the development of the green economy, reduction of carbon emissions, energy transition, environmental responsibility, and the role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainable development. Participants\u2019 questions were addressed during the discussion session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
