As part of the research conducted by university researchers, the hydrochemical properties of water samples collected from different areas of the region were studied, and their suitability for domestic and agricultural use was scientifically evaluated.

During the study, surface and groundwater samples collected from Mingachevir, Yevlakh, Agdash, Ujar, Kurdamir, Hajigabul, Zardab, and Goychay districts were analyzed in the university’s laboratory using modern laboratory methods. The samples were examined to determine the acidity level of water (pH), electrical conductivity, total hardness, calcium and magnesium ion content, bicarbonate and chloride composition, as well as the level of total mineralization.

The results of the study showed that most water sources located in the Central Aran region are favorable in terms of quality indicators for both domestic and irrigation purposes. In particular, water samples taken from Mingachevir, Agdash, Yevlakh, and Ujar districts demonstrated results that comply with international standards in terms of mineralization and other hydrochemical parameters.

At the same time, within the framework of the study, high levels of salinity and mineralization were detected in some water sources located in the Godagqobu area of Zardab district. The analyses revealed that the mineralization level of water in that area reached 1,800 mg/L, while electrical conductivity reached 3,600 µS/cm.

One of the key innovations of the study was the statistical analysis of correlations between the chemical compositions of the region’s water samples. The correlation analysis showed a very strong relationship between water hardness and calcium and magnesium ions. At the same time, an almost complete correspondence was identified between electrical conductivity and total mineralization, which is considered an important scientific result for the rapid monitoring of water quality.

MSU researchers believe that the obtained results are of great importance for the efficient management of water resources in the region, the prevention of soil salinization, and the promotion of sustainable water use in agriculture. The study also provides a reliable scientific basis for developing adaptation measures against the impacts of climate change and strengthening environmental security.

This research conducted at Mingachevir State University is regarded as another successful outcome of the university’s efforts to strengthen its scientific potential, expand applied research aimed at solving regional challenges, and contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals.

An important scientific study dedicated to assessing the current state of water resources in the Central Aran economic region has been successfully completed at Mingachevir State University.
