On November 3, 2025, a training titled “Sustainable Management of Water Resources” was held at the Mingachevir Hydropower Plant (HPP), jointly organized by the Departments of Energy Engineering and Physics and Ecology of Mingachevir State University (MSU) for students and HPP staff members. The main purpose of the training was to strengthen awareness on the protection of water resources, promote their efficient and sustainable use, and enhance knowledge on water resource management.
During the training, lecturer of the Department of Energy Engineering Madina Aliyeva and lecturer of the Department of Physics and Ecology Vugar Sariyev delivered presentations on the topic. During their presentations, participants were provided with detailed information about the protection of water resources, their efficient and sustainable use, management of reservoirs, reduction of water losses, and preservation of the ecological balance of water bodies.
In their speeches, special emphasis was placed on the importance of proper planning of water resources in the operation of hydropower plants. It was noted that water resources play a crucial role not only in energy production but also in the socio-economic development of the region.
During the training, it was highlighted that the sustainable management of water resources ensures stable electricity production while also contributing to the protection of natural ecosystems and the preservation of water resources for future generations. It was also brought to the attention of the participants that hydropower plants hold an important place in the country’s energy system and that the electricity produced here is more cost-effective in terms of production costs.
Within the framework of the training, participants exchanged views on the efficient use of water resources, protection of ecological safety, and the application of sustainable development principles.
