A debate titled “How does urban lifestyle affect traditional social relations?” was held at Mingachevir State University within the framework of the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture.”

On May 15, 2026, at Mingachevir State University, a debate was organized by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Faculty of Education in accordance with the “Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026.” The event was dedicated to the scientific and practical discussion of the impact of modern urbanization processes on the system of social relations in society.

The event was attended by the university’s Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Associate Professor Natavan Namazova, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education, Associate Professor Aygun Gadirova, faculty members of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, and students.

In her opening speech, Associate Professor Natavan Namazova emphasized that urban planning policy is not limited to infrastructure development alone, but also prioritizes the preservation of national-cultural values and social solidarity.

During the debate, students выступed in two teams, presenting different perspectives on the impact of urban life on traditional social relations, supported by arguments. While the affirmative team defended the view that urbanization weakens family and community ties, the opposing team argued that urban life transforms social relations but does not completely eliminate their essence.

Throughout the discussion, participants addressed issues such as social dynamics, urban culture, changes in communication forms, and social integration in modern society, demonstrating a multidisciplinary approach to the topic.

The main objective of the event was to develop students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, argumentation, and public speaking abilities, as well as to create a platform for scientifically grounded discussions on the interrelation between urbanization and social relations.

The debate concluded with active participation and an engaging exchange of ideas among the participants.
