An awareness-raising event dedicated to 1 March – World Civil Defence Day was held at Mingachevir State University in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was organized by the Department of Mechanics and the Civil Defence Headquarters of the University. It took place in the university courtyard and was attended by MSU staff members, students, and master’s degree candidates.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Head of the Department of Mechanics Mahir Ismayilov spoke about the significance of World Civil Defence Day and emphasized the importance of increasing the level of preparedness of the population, particularly young people, for emergencies. He noted that awareness-raising activities play a crucial role in protecting human life, ensuring health, and creating a safe environment. Proper risk assessment and the development of rapid response skills are among the key factors in preventing losses during emergency situations.
Ilham Mammadov, Head of the Civil Defence Headquarters of MSU and lecturer at the Department of Mechanics, provided detailed information on the principles of organizing civil defence activities, emergency preparedness mechanisms, and the proper use of relevant equipment. He highlighted the correct application of personal protective equipment, evacuation procedures, basic behavioral principles, and the importance of coordination during emergencies. It was noted that preventive measures and systematic preparedness are of great importance in ensuring human safety and strengthening social resilience.
Within the framework of the event, students were once again reminded of the importance of remaining calm, responsible, and responsive during emergencies. It was emphasized that enhancing their knowledge and skills in this area carries strategic importance for modern society. Participants particularly underlined the significance of practical knowledge for daily life and public safety.
It should be noted that 1 March is annually observed as World Civil Defence Day in many countries around the world. The main purpose of this day is to increase public preparedness for emergencies, promote a culture of safety, and strengthen awareness-raising efforts aimed at reducing risks.
