The debate tournament on “Taxes”, organized among students of higher education institutions within the framework of cooperation between the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science and Education, has concluded.
Students of Mingachevir State University also took part in the tournament, which was held at the administrative building of the Training Centre of the State Tax Service in Shamakhi district. MSU was represented by fourth-year Finance students Aqil Alizamin Mustafayev and Namiq Ceyhun Gadimli.
The main purpose of the tournament was to promote tax culture and financial literacy among students, develop their analytical thinking, logical reasoning and public speaking skills, as well as increase young people’s interest in the field of taxation. The debate format provided participants with an opportunity to express their views, substantiate their arguments, listen to different opinions and approach economic processes from the perspective of civic responsibility.
A total of 62 debaters representing 29 higher education institutions and studying in Azerbaijani, English and Russian sections competed in the qualification and final rounds of the tournament. The participants exchanged views on topics related to the tax system, financial discipline, public responsibility and economic awareness.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov, Member of Parliament Shahin Seyidzade, Deputy Head of the State Tax Service Emil Garayev, Chairperson of the “Debate in Civil Society” Public Union Aydan Huseynova, Deputy Head of the Training Centre of the State Tax Service Mirali Kazimov and other guests.
During the speeches, it was emphasized that debate tournaments play an important role in developing students’ analytical thinking, ability to present well-grounded arguments, communication, research and public speaking skills. It was also noted that discussions around taxation contribute to strengthening young people’s active and responsible approach to economic processes.
The participation of Mingachevir State University students in this tournament reflects the university’s commitment not only to strengthening students’ professional knowledge, but also to developing their practical thinking, civic engagement, debate culture and financial literacy.
