On November 4, 2025, upon the joint initiative of the Departments of Foreign Languages and Humanities of Mingachevir State University, an awareness-raising meeting titled “The Woman You Call…” dedicated to gender equality was organized at the Shikhbabalı Village Library of Aghdam district.

In the modern era, gender equality plays a crucial role in ensuring social justice and fostering inclusive and sustainable development. The active integration of women into science, education, culture, and public life contributes to strengthening the intellectual and moral potential of society, developing human capital, and enhancing social welfare. In this context, the meeting aimed to increase awareness about women’s rights and opportunities.

During the event, Nargiz Karimova, a lecturer from the Department of Foreign Languages, delivered a presentation on “Gender Equality.” The report thoroughly analyzed the essence of the gender concept, the equality of women’s and men’s rights, the impact of existing stereotypes on social relations, and the challenges faced by women. It was emphasized that gender equality is not limited to legal mechanisms alone but is also closely connected with the moral values and cultural transformation of society.

In her speech, prominent Azerbaijani women who left a significant mark on the country’s history and culture were presented as examples. The perseverance of the first Azerbaijani opera singer Shovkat Mammadova, the contributions of Shafiqa Akhundova — the first female opera composer in the East — to national music culture, and the scientific achievements of academician and ophthalmologist Zarifa Aliyeva were highlighted. These examples once again demonstrated that women, through knowledge, dedication, and determination, have attained an important position in public life.

The meeting continued in an interactive discussion format, where participants exchanged views and raised relevant questions. The event served as an important platform for promoting women’s education, encouraging their social engagement, and fostering an environment of equal opportunities.

It should be noted that such initiatives implemented at Mingachevir State University constitute an integral part of the institution’s strategy aimed at building an inclusive society, promoting human rights and freedoms, and strengthening the principles of social justice.
