A panel discussion titled “FutureProof Housing – Sustainable Homes for the Future” was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU) within the framework of the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” organized by the Department of Economics. The event was aligned with the university’s research and internationalization priorities in the fields of sustainable urban development, smart city approaches, green economy, and innovative urbanization models.
Opening the event, Head of the Department of Economics Zivar Zeynalova emphasized the growing importance of sustainable urban planning, green economy, and innovative housing models in the modern era. She noted that in the context of accelerating urbanization, the implementation of smart infrastructure, expansion of energy-efficient solutions, and strengthening of environmental responsibility principles have become key priorities for higher education institutions.
Z. Zeynalova highlighted the ongoing research activities at Mingachevir State University in this field, as well as international cooperation initiatives and the importance of equipping students with knowledge and competencies aligned with sustainable development goals. She underlined that such events contribute significantly to strengthening university-industry collaboration, enhancing students’ practical skills, and developing competencies relevant to global challenges.
Concluding her remarks, she stressed the relevance of the panel topic and expressed confidence that the discussion would serve as a valuable platform for participants.
During the panel, extensive discussions were held on future trends in urbanization, smart infrastructure, evaluation of energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings, and innovative housing models. Participants analytically examined the impact of modern urban development trends on the real estate market, business environment, and investor behavior.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan Society of Appraisers delivered presentations at the event. Chairman of the Board, economist-expert Vugar Oruj spoke on “Urban Planning, Smart Infrastructure and the Future of the Real Estate Market,” addressing the economic aspects of sustainable development in the context of energy-efficient building valuation, innovative housing models, and investor expectations.
Deputy Chairman of the Board Nail Hashimov presented on “FutureProof Housing and the New Era of Business Valuation,” explaining the evolution of valuation methodologies amid global economic transformations.
Advisor to the Chairman, international management systems expert and business analyst Asif Ibrahimov shared insights on the role of international standards in shaping the cities of the future, as well as innovative governance models and sustainable urban development strategies.
