Echoes of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh at His Homeland: A Grand Literary and Artistic Event Held in Sheki on the Occasion of the Poet’s 100th Anniversary

On December 19, 2025, a literary and artistic event titled “Echoes of Mingachevir State University in the Homeland of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh” was organized by Mingachevir State University with the support of Techera Academy LLC to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh.

The event was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center under the Sheki-Zagatala Regional Department of Culture. Representatives of the Sheki City Executive Authority, the Sheki City Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, the Sheki Regional Scientific Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Sheki-Zagatala Regional Education Department, the Sheki-Zagatala Regional Department of Culture, members of the Sheki branch of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, Judge Parvana Mammadova of the Sheki City Court, Director of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s House Museum Elshan Zakariyyabayli, representatives of the Zagatala branch of UNEC, the Sheki branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, and Mingachevir State University, as well as faculty members, students, graduate students, and schoolchildren from the Sheki-Zagatala region attended the event.

Before the event, participants laid flowers at the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and honored his memory with deep respect.

The event began with a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland, followed by the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Afterwards, a video prepared using artificial intelligence technologies reflecting the life and creative legacy of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh was presented.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, MSU Rector Anar Eminov spoke in detail about Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s exceptional contributions to Azerbaijani literature, national identity, and patriotic thought. He noted that the poet’s творчество is not only a literary heritage, but also an expression of national memory, the idea of freedom, and spiritual integrity. Emphasizing the importance of instilling this heritage in younger generations, the rector stated that systematic activities promoting national and moral values are consistently implemented at the university. He also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event, as well as to the guests and participants.

Subsequently, speeches were delivered by Ragif Gasimov, Director of UNEC’s Zagatala branch; Gulnara Abdullayeva, Deputy Director of ASPU’s Sheki branch; Elshan Zakariyyabayli, Director of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s House Museum; Yusif Shukurlu, Director of the Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS; Gunay Mahmudova, Head of the Sheki-Zagatala Regional Education Department; Elchin Ismayilov-Muradkhanli, Head of the Toponymy Department of the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS and member of the Toponymy Commission of the National Assembly; and Elvin Garayev, Head of the Cultural Institutions Work Sector.

During the speeches, the participants extensively analyzed Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s outstanding role in shaping Azerbaijani national consciousness and educating younger generations in the spirit of patriotism, as well as the scientific, literary, and cultural aspects of his rich heritage. The speakers emphasized that such literary and cultural events contribute significantly to the development of the cultural environment in the regions and the expansion of cooperation between higher education institutions and scientific organizations, expressing appreciation to the leadership of Mingachevir State University for organizing the event at a high level.

The event continued with an artistic program. During this part, faculty members and students of Mingachevir State University, along with schoolchildren from general education institutions under the Sheki-Zagatala Regional Education Department, recited patriotic poems by Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh. Musical performances and literary-artistic compositions reflecting the ideological and thematic depth of his creativity were also presented.

The event later continued in an artistic format at Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh House Museum. Participants became closely acquainted with exhibits reflecting the poet’s rich life and creative path and experienced the spiritual atmosphere in which he lived. Poems by Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh performed by university students added a special spirit to the event and made the anniversary program even more memorable.

It should be noted that throughout the year, various scientific, literary, and cultural events are planned at Mingachevir State University in connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh.
