Mingachevir State University hosts “Green Hackathon”

Mingachevir State University has hosted the “Green Hackathon” to promote sustainable development, strengthen innovative approaches to environmental challenges, and foster next-generation solutions in green technologies.

The event, jointly organized by the Departments of Physics and Ecology, Mechanics, Energy, and the Lifelong Learning School, stood out as an important platform within the university’s innovation and environmental thinking ecosystem.

The main objective of the hackathon was to enable participants to systematically analyze real environmental and technological challenges and develop integrated solutions combining engineering, energy, and ecological perspectives. Participants worked on projects related to optimizing energy resources, reducing carbon emissions, implementing renewable energy systems, waste management, smart city infrastructure, and environmental monitoring systems.

During the event, teams considered not only the technological aspects of their solutions but also their social impact, economic efficiency, and long-term environmental outcomes. This approach enhanced the practical applicability and overall value of the projects. In particular, the application of sustainable systems thinking ensured that each project was developed within the context of ecosystem integrity.

Throughout the hackathon, an intensive process of idea development and prototyping was carried out. Within a short time, participants refined their initial concepts into presentation-ready projects, contributing to the development of their analytical thinking, engineering approach, teamwork, and decision-making skills.

At the final stage, participants presented their projects to a jury panel. The evaluation was based on criteria such as level of innovation, measurability of environmental impact, energy and resource efficiency, applicability, and alignment with sustainable development goals. The most promising projects were selected and provided with recommendations for further development.

The “Green Hackathon” has been recognized as an important initiative contributing to the development of an innovation culture in green technologies, strengthening students’ environmental responsibility, and promoting the practical application of sustainable development principles.
