Workshop Held at Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC within the Energy Cluster Framework, Organized by Mingachevir State University and Azerbaijan Technical University

On December 16, 2025, a workshop titled “Balancing Electricity Supply and Demand in Azerbaijan – Optimization of Generation, Transmission, and Consumption” was held at Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC, jointly organized by Mingachevir State University (MDU) (MSU) and Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU).

The event was implemented within the framework of the Strategic Cooperation Memorandum dated December 6, 2025, on the joint establishment and operation of the Electroenergetics Research Cluster between MDU and AzTU. The main objective of the workshop was to ensure efficient utilization of Azerbaijan’s and regional energy potential, maintain the balance between electricity production and consumption, and strengthen cooperation between academia and industry.

The workshop brought together the Chairman of the Board of the Education Quality Assurance Agency, Tural Ahmadov; the Rector of MSU, Anar Eminov; the Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, Professor Vilayat Valiyev; as well as representatives of Azerenerji OJSC, Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC, and Mingachevir Hydropower Plant LLC, along with academic and administrative staff from both universities.

The workshop was moderated by Professor Vilayat Valiyev. Presentations were delivered by Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Azerenerji OJSC, Uzeyir Yusifov, Director of Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC Tahmasib Huseynov, Director of Mingachevir Hydropower Plant LLC Ogtay Pirverdiyev, Vice-Rector of AzTU Fariz Mammadov, Dean of the Faculty of Energy, Professor Huseyngulu Guliyev, and MSU lecturer and employee of Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC Qadir Mammadli.

The presentations covered key topics such as balancing supply and demand in the electricity system, optimizing generation capacities, the role of transmission networks, integration of renewable and conventional energy sources, and the importance of university–industry collaboration. It was emphasized that such joint scientific and practical events make a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s energy security and developing human capital.

The workshop continued with Q&A sessions, exchange of views, and discussions on future cooperation prospects.

It should also be noted that students of Mingachevir State University enrolled in “Energy Engineering” and “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” programs undertake their internships at Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC. In addition, practical classes are conducted at the plant’s production facilities and training center.
