The event was organized by Şəbnəm İslamova, a lecturer at the Department of Natural Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering, and took place at Secondary School No. 3 in Khachmaz village of Oğuz District with the participation of school students.
The main purpose of the debate was to increase students’ knowledge and awareness about climate change, its impact on the environment, and ways to prevent its negative consequences, as well as to foster a sense of environmental responsibility. Within the framework of the event, participants were divided into two teams and presented various arguments on the topic, engaging in extensive discussions on the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to climate change.
During the debate, key environmental issues such as global warming, the increase of greenhouse gas emissions, depletion of water resources, and loss of biodiversity were brought into focus. In their speeches, students highlighted both local and global environmental challenges and emphasized that these problems are closely linked to human activity. They also underlined the importance of maintaining ecological balance, using natural resources efficiently, and applying the principles of sustainable development.
As part of the event, participants’ performances were evaluated by a panel of judges. The evaluation criteria included debate culture, logical justification of arguments, presentation skills, and teamwork, leading to the selection of the winning team. At the end of the event, distinguished students were awarded certificates and letters of appreciation.
In her remarks, Şəbnəm İslamova emphasized that organizing such educational initiatives plays an important role in enhancing environmental awareness among the younger generation and encouraging their active participation in environmental protection.
The debate was marked by interactive and engaging discussions, increasing students’ interest in environmental issues and contributing positively to the development of their analytical thinking, critical reasoning, and communication skills. It was noted that such initiatives contribute to strengthening environmental awareness and supporting sustainable development in society.
