Natavan Valiyeva, a lecturer at the Department of Physics and Ecology of Mingachevir State University, conducted a training on “Reduction and Management of Food Waste” at the Mingachevir Youth House.
During the training, the causes of food waste were explained in detail, with particular focus on losses occurring at production, transportation, storage, and consumption stages. Participants received comprehensive information on the negative environmental impacts of food waste, including soil and water pollution, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and contributions to climate change.
Methods to prevent food waste were also discussed, emphasizing the importance of proper shopping habits, adherence to storage conditions, attention to expiration dates, and planning of daily diets. The training also covered modern approaches such as the reuse of surplus food, its valorization through different methods, and composting techniques.
The significance of proper food waste management for society and the economy was highlighted, with attention to efficient use of resources, household budget savings, and contributions to sustainable development. Participants engaged in interactive discussions and exchanged ideas based on real-life examples.
Moreover, the training stressed the importance of expanding awareness-raising activities to reduce food waste and increasing both individual and collective responsibility in this area.
In conclusion, reducing food waste depends directly on daily behaviors and habits of individuals. By applying effective management practices, conscious consumption, and responsible approaches, it is possible to protect the environment and use natural resources more efficiently.
