Mingachevir State University has hosted the “Smart Solutions for Community” Hackathon aimed at developing innovative and applicable approaches to addressing challenges faced by local communities.
Organized through the joint collaboration of the Department of Mechanics and the Department of Information Technologies, the event served as an important platform encouraging students to analyze real-life problems and develop technology-driven solutions. The hackathon contributed to strengthening innovative thinking and application-oriented approaches within the university.
During the event, speakers emphasized the crucial role of technology in ensuring sustainable development of local communities. It was highlighted that systematic problem analysis and the development of practical solutions are essential in addressing modern social challenges, and that interdisciplinary approaches combined with digital technologies are of particular importance.
Within the hackathon, participants worked intensively within a limited timeframe to identify key issues faced by communities and to develop practical and sustainable solutions. The presented projects covered a wide range of areas, including smart city applications, optimization of коммунal services, improved access to public services, environmentally focused technological solutions, and digital governance mechanisms.
One of the distinctive features of the hackathon was that participants not only presented ideas but also modeled how their solutions could function in real community settings. Teams applied a problem–solution approach, justifying the effectiveness, resource feasibility, and practical applicability of their projects.
Throughout the event, participants operated in a dynamic environment requiring teamwork, rapid decision-making, and creative thinking, which significantly contributed to the development of both their technical and social skills. Collaboration among students from different fields strengthened interdisciplinary engagement and enabled more effective solutions to complex challenges.
At the final stage, the projects were evaluated by a jury panel based on criteria such as innovation, practical applicability, and the real impact on communities. The most successful and promising solutions were recognized, and participants were provided with recommendations for further development of their projects.
The event was attended by representatives of the university administration, faculty members, and experts in relevant fields.
