A Scientific and Literary Seminar Dedicated to International Mother Language Day Held at Mingachevir State University

On February 20, 2026, Mingachevir State University hosted a scientific and literary seminar dedicated to February 21 – International Mother Language Day. The seminar was held on the theme “The Mother Tongue is the Foundation of National Self-Awareness, Collective Memory and Spiritual Unity!” The event took place at the university’s Heydar Aliyev Museum.

Opening the seminar, Head of the Department of Humanities, Associate Professor Esmira Jafarova spoke about the important role of the mother tongue in preserving the national and moral values of a people, shaping national self-awareness, and transmitting cultural heritage to future generations. It was noted that the protection and development of the Azerbaijani language is one of the priority areas of state policy.

At the event, Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Namaz Manafov delivered a report on “The Role of the Mother Tongue in the Formation of National Identity.” The report emphasized that the mother tongue is one of the main pillars of national and cultural memory and plays an important role in preserving the historical past, literary and artistic thought, and moral values of the people.

As part of the seminar, students delivered presentations on various topics. The speeches extensively addressed the language policy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the role of the Azerbaijani language in the formation of national ideology, the protection of the mother tongue in the context of globalization, and the importance of language as a carrier of national memory.

In the artistic part of the event, university students recited poems dedicated to the mother tongue, presenting the richness and national-spiritual value of the Azerbaijani language through poetic examples.

The seminar participants emphasized that protecting the mother tongue is the moral duty of every citizen and that organizing educational events in this area is of great importance in terms of strengthening the younger generation’s attachment to national values.
