Department of Mathematics

As a chair of “higher mathematics”, the Department functioned as a non-specialized department at Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute until the 1991-95 academic years, and from the 1995-96 academic year the specialty department continued its activity. Thus, from the same academic year, the department was given the specialty II 02.15 “Economic Information and automatic control systems”, and therefore, the institute has been taught 8 subjects covering the faculties “Economics and management” and “Electroenergetics and mechanics”, and 31 subjects including all subjects on the specialty “Economic Information and ACS”

During its activity, 2 associate professors, 3 senior teachers, 5 assistants, 2 teachers and a head of laboratory, 15 employees worked at the Department

In 1996-2002, the department was directed by PhD in physics and maths  Q.T.Kalashov. Since 2002-2003 academic year, the department has been  directed by  f.r.e.n. Associate Professor S.M.Mustafayev.

In 2002-2003 academic year, 10 teachers, 1 Senior Laboratory Assistant started to work at the Department. Of these, 2 associate professors, 3 as a senior teacher, 3 head teachers, 1 laboratory assistant have worked.

Since 2004-2005 academic year, the Department of” Mathematics and Informatics ” has been functioning as a specialized department. The department was given the specialty TE100200 “Informatics”, therefore, the department started functioning as a specialty department again.

From the 2010-2011 academic year, the name of the department was changed to “Mathematics and computer sciences” in accordance with the “State standard of higher education” of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 1059 dated 11.09.2008, in accordance with the temporary regulations, from the 2011-2012 academic year, teaching in the department was conducted with a credit system.

In connection with the establishment of the Mingachevir State University on the basis of the Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute by the relevant order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it continues to operate as part of the “Pedagogy” faculty, which was re-formed as the “Mathematics and Computer Sciences” department, and later as the “Mathematics” department, according to the appropriate order of the rector of the university.

By the relevant order of the rector of the university, since 2016, the “Mathematics” department has been merged with the “Information technologies” department and is surrounded by the following specialties:

– Computer science

– Mathematics and informatics teaching

– Mathematics teaching

– Information technologies and systems engineering

–   Information technologies

From September 2018, by the relevant order of the rector of the university, the specialty “Information technologies” was separated from the “Mathematics” department and started functioning as a new department.

Currently, 22 professors-teachers and 2 laboratory assistants work in the department. 6 of them are associate professors, 6 are head teachers, 10 are teachers and 2 are laboratory assistants. Currently, the department teaches 36 subjects at the bachelor’s level and 19 at the master’s level.

In the department, it is planned to examine the problems of the scientific research work “Improving the teaching of mathematics and applied mathematics”, “Improving the teaching methodology and methodology of informatics” for 2021-2025.
