On June 16, 2026, Mingachevir State University hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the cherished memory of Turan Maharramov, who rose to the peak of martyrdom during the “Revenge Operation” on September 13, 2022, as well as the presentation of the book “The Saga of Immortal Love: Turan’s Sayib.”
The event, held in the university’s assembly hall, was attended by members of martyrs’ families, representatives of the Sheki Cultural Center, members of MSU’s academic and administrative staff, and students.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, followed by the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Afterwards, a video highlighting the life, service to the Motherland, and combat path of martyr Turan Maharramov was screened. The video presented the honorable life journey of Turan Maharramov, who was distinguished at a young age by his devotion to the Motherland, loyalty to military service, and heroism. It also reflected his participation in the 44-day Patriotic War and the courage he demonstrated during the September battles of 2022.
Opening the event, Rector of Mingachevir State University Anar Eminov stated that preserving the memory of martyrs is not only a moral duty but also an important public mission in terms of shaping the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism. The Rector noted that universities are not only educational institutions where knowledge and skills are transferred, but also important centers where national memory, civic responsibility, and moral values are preserved and promoted. Anar Eminov emphasized that the short but honorable life of martyr Turan Maharramov serves as an example of self-sacrifice, loyalty, and love for the Motherland for students.
Then, members of the martyr’s family delivered speeches. The martyr’s father, Tarlan Maharramov, his mother, Anisat Maharramova, his sister, Tarana Ziyaddinova, and his wife, Sayib Maharramova, spoke about Turan’s devotion to his family, his Motherland, and military service, as well as his human qualities and unforgettable memories. It was noted in the speeches that Turan Maharramov’s name will live forever in the hearts of his family, in the memory of those who knew him, and in the heroic history of the Azerbaijani people. The family members expressed their gratitude to the university administration and organizers for the respect shown to the memory of martyrs, for organizing the event, and for presenting Turan Maharramov’s life path as an example for young people.
Following this, information was provided about the book “The Saga of Immortal Love: Turan’s Sayib.” It was noted that the book is a meaningful example of spiritual memory, conveying to readers the heroic path of martyr Turan Maharramov, the pride and longing of his family, as well as the story of loyalty and love of his wife, Sayib Maharramova.
The author of the book, Telli Sanam Borchali, a member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, the Azerbaijan Journalists’ Union, and the Iraqi Turkmen Writers’ Union, as well as a laureate of the “Golden Pen” Media Award, spoke about the history of the creation of the work, her meetings with martyrs’ families, and the moral responsibility of writing about Turan Maharramov’s life journey. At the end of her speech, the author presented copies of her book as gifts to the university administration, the MSU library collection, and martyrs’ families.
The event, moderated by Elvin Nusratoghlu, artistic director of the Sheki Cultural Center and founder of “EN Group Production,” continued with an artistic program. During the program, students of the ER Dance Group presented the composition “A Mother’s Cry.” Singer Tarkhan Ibrahimov performed the song “Azerbaijan.” Later, “Mr. Lieutenant” was performed by Yusif Yusifli and Nuray Ibrahimkhalilova, while Hakim Akbarov performed the song “Azerbaijan.”
The event was remembered as a significant gathering in terms of deep respect for the memory of martyrs, commitment to national and moral values, and strengthening the civic responsibility of the younger generation.
