On May 22, 2026, a scientific-practical seminar titled “Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development” was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU), organized by the Department of Physics and Ecology.
The seminar took place at the Heydar Aliyev Museum located in the Faculty of Economics building and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation, promote understanding of environmental challenges and their solutions, and enhance students’ research and presentation skills.
The event was moderated by Natavan Valiyeva, a lecturer at the Department of Physics and Ecology. It commenced with the screening of a short video entitled “Our Future Begins with Nature.”
Following the opening, first-year students majoring in Ecology delivered presentations on various topics related to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability. Gulustan Hajizada presented on “Biodiversity Conservation and Food Security,” Leyla Suleymanova discussed “The Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Its Environmental Consequences,” Hakima Gurbanzada spoke on “The Effects of Plastic Waste on Living Organisms and Ecosystems,” while Ayan Asadova delivered a presentation on “The Impact of Urbanization on Wildlife and Ecosystems.”
The presentations highlighted the global and regional significance of biodiversity conservation, the effects of climate change on ecosystems, waste management challenges, and the environmental consequences of rapid urbanization.
As part of the seminar, students also presented their projects, followed by interactive discussions and exchanges of ideas among participants. Speakers emphasized that protecting ecological balance, ensuring the efficient use of natural resources, and fostering environmental responsibility are essential components of sustainable development.
At the conclusion of the event, participants underscored the importance of continuing environmental awareness initiatives and highlighted the vital role of young people in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development efforts.
