Mingachevir State University has achieved another important milestone in terms of participation in international rankings and integration into the global higher education space. According to the results of “THE Impact Rankings 2026” announced by Times Higher Education, a prestigious UK-based ranking organization, MSU has been placed in the 1001–1500 band among world universities.
This result demonstrates that the University’s activities in the areas of sustainable development, social responsibility, environmental awareness, green campus initiatives, innovation, research and international cooperation have been recognized at the international level.
It should be noted that MSU was ranked in the 1501+ band in THE Impact Rankings in 2025. In 2026, the University improved its position and advanced to the 1001–1500 band. In addition, MSU’s overall score also increased from 49.7 in 2025 to 53.6 in 2026.
According to the 2026 results, Mingachevir State University ranked among the top 10 Azerbaijani universities in 9 out of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The University’s highest national indicators were recorded in SDG 14 – Life Below Water, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 15 – Life on Land, SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
MSU ranked 5th among Azerbaijani universities in SDG 14 – Life Below Water, 6th in SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, 6th in SDG 15 – Life on Land, 7th in SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and 7th in SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
The University also achieved noteworthy results in several areas of the global ranking. Thus, MSU was placed in the 301–400 band among world universities in SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 15 – Life on Land, in the 401–600 band in SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and in the 601–800 band in SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
In addition, Mingachevir State University was represented among the country’s leading higher education institutions in SDG 1 – No Poverty, SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5 – Gender Equality, SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
The achieved results are considered a logical outcome of the systematic reforms carried out at MSU in recent years, the alignment of education and research activities with the sustainable development agenda, the expansion of green campus initiatives, the increased engagement of students and staff in social responsibility and environmental awareness, as well as the strengthening of local and international partnerships.
MSU’s progress in THE Impact Rankings 2026 is an important step toward the University’s transformation, as a regional higher education institution, into a sustainable development platform recognized not only locally but also internationally. This success is fully aligned with the University’s development goals for 2026–2030, its transition to a research-oriented university model, and its priorities in digital transformation, green campus development and internationalization.
It should be noted that Mingachevir State University aims to further expand its education, research, innovation and social responsibility activities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthen its position in international rankings, and contribute to enhancing the global reputation of Azerbaijan’s higher education system.
