Mingachevir State University is taking significant steps to enhance its teachers’ foreign language proficiency and align teaching practices with international standards.
As part of these efforts, seven lecturers from the university’s Department of Foreign Languages participated in the TKT Module 1 exam today. This exam is an internationally recognized certification program offered by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and contributes substantially to the professional development of teachers.
In May 2025, a Letter of Intent on cooperation was signed between MSU and the International Training and Assessment Center (ITAC), the official representative of Cambridge University Press & Assessment in Azerbaijan. Within this framework, plans are in place to align the university’s academic programs with Cambridge standards and to support teachers’ and students’ participation in TKT and other international examinations.
In addition, as part of the “Assessment and Teaching of English Language” project, a free professional English language course will be offered to 40 university staff members. The training will be implemented in cooperation with the British Council, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Azerbaijan, and MSU. The program, starting on October 6, will be delivered in a hybrid format (online and face-to-face sessions), and participants’ proficiency levels will be determined through the British Council Aptis diagnostic test before the project begins.
Within the training program, teachers below the B2 level will attend a 160-hour general English course. Those at the B2 level and above will participate in an 80-hour general English course along with an additional 80 hours of methodology training. Subject-specific teachers will be offered a 140-hour academic program combining general English and methodology training.
These initiatives aim to enhance the professionalism of MSU’s teaching staff, expand access to international certification opportunities, and ensure that the quality of teaching meets global standards.
