An awareness-raising training titled “Rainwater Harvesting and Utilization” was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU), organized by the Department of Physics and Ecology. The main objective of the training was to inform participants about the protection of water resources and the efficient use of alternative water sources in the context of climate change.
During the training, a presentation was delivered by Gulgun Israfilova, a young lecturer of the department. Participants were provided with detailed information about the ecological and economic advantages of collecting and managing rainwater. It was emphasized that, against the background of global climate change and the decreasing availability of water resources, rainwater harvesting and its efficient use are considered one of the important alternative water sources.
Within the framework of the event, presentations were delivered on the mechanisms of rainwater collection, the structure of modern systems, filtration and storage methods, as well as the use of rainwater in households, agriculture, and various technical fields. Discussions were also held on the protection of water resources, reducing flood risks, and the role of rainwater in sustainable urban planning.
Participants of the training became familiar with methods for determining the potential volume of rainwater that can be collected in a residential area, based on practical calculations and real examples. In addition, an exchange of views was held on the possibilities and prospects of implementing such systems in Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that organizing such awareness-raising events is of particular importance in terms of promoting ecological thinking, encouraging a culture of water conservation, and supporting the principles of sustainable development.
