On March 11, 2026, training sessions on fire safety and emergency preparedness were conducted for the staff and students of Mingachevir State University (MSU) by employees of the Aran Regional Center of the State Fire Control Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The training sessions were organized within the framework of the “Green Emergency & Fire Safety Week” held at the university. The events, implemented in line with the university’s sustainable development strategy, “Green Campus” concept, and commitment to creating a safe educational environment, aimed to strengthen the institutional approach to environmental safety, risk management, and emergency preparedness.
Throughout the week, the university campus hosted practical fire safety trainings, emergency simulations, mass evacuation drills, seminars on environmental risk management, and awareness-raising presentations. The primary objectives of the events were to foster a culture of safety among students and staff, enhance rapid emergency response skills, promote resilient approaches to environmental risks, and expand the practical implementation of green campus principles.
Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations provided participants with detailed information on the proper use of firefighting equipment, initial response methods, safe evacuation routes, and collective coordination mechanisms during emergencies. Practical exercises based on real-life scenarios were also conducted to assess participants’ preparedness for emergency situations.
As part of the events, special awareness zones titled “Eco Safety Zone,” “Water Protection Zone,” and “Renewable Energy Safety Zone” operated on the university campus. These zones featured presentations on hazardous and electronic waste management, laboratory safety, water resource protection, energy security, and the application of green technologies.
One of the most notable activities of the week was the “Mass Emergency Evacuation Drill.” During the large-scale evacuation exercise covering different university buildings, the effectiveness of safety procedures was practically tested.
Interactive competitions such as the “Eco Safety Challenge,” “Green Safety Quiz,” and “Sustainable Campus Idea Pitch” were also organized with the participation of students. Innovative ideas focusing on sustainable safety, green technologies, and environmental responsibility were presented during these activities.
At the conclusion of the week, the “Sustainable Emergency Campus Declaration” was adopted. The declaration outlined key priority directions for the development of a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible university environment.
Such initiatives implemented at MSU play a significant role in strengthening campus safety standards, promoting a culture of environmental responsibility, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and developing an institutional management model aligned with international green university indicators. The outcomes of the events are expected to contribute to the university’s stronger positioning within international green campus initiatives, particularly in the fields of environmental sustainability and safe campus management.
